A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Download NowName your own price

In what seemed to be a peaceful night in the Hololive headquarters, A-chan works hard late in the night until she receives a distress call from Sora. Rushing to meet her, she finds her friend beaten up.

A misterious person has been attacking different Hololive members, corrupting their hearts in the process, and now A-chan must step forward and put an end to this confrontation before it's too late.

HoloGame Project: Corrupted Heart is a shoot em up inspired by Touhou made with Game Maker Studio 2 exclusively by me, designed to be just a small simple game that you can play in one sitting without any additional game modes, at least for now, released for Windows and Linux. I hope you can enjoy this little game, even when it's a bit on the hard side, and if you do, please let me know by posting your highscore and any criticism you may have, it would really make my day!

Please note you can also download the soundtrack, feel free to remix any song you may like or to use them for videos/other projects, as long as you give me credit!

You can also find a youtube playlist of the soundtrack here!

Thank you and have a nice day!

Info and future:

The game has a playthrough time of around 25-30 minutes more or less.

The linux version has been tested in linux mint and ubuntu, I'm not sure if it will work in other distributions, but if it doesn't work in yours, please contact me and I'll see if I can fix it.

As for additional content, I don't have anything planned as of now. The only thing I'd like to do is to translate it into Japanese, but I don't know Japanese so I won't be able to do it.

Controls:

The game supports keyboard, controllers and arcade sticks, at least the ones tested, and you can change the controls in the options menu of the game, but in case you need them, the default controls are:

  • WASD - Move
  • Left Shift - Focus mode
  • J - Accept/Shoot
  • K - Back/Encore (Encores are the bombs of this game)
  • L - Pause

Features:

  • Use your encores to clear the screen, gaining points in the process!
  • Move close to bullets and enemies to gain gracing points!
  • Get power notes (red) and unlock power stages to gain damage and spread!
  • Enter focus mode to move with more precision and straighten your spread!
  • Use your encore the moment you are hit to avoid losing a life at the cost of two encores, or one encore if it's your last one!

Hardware specs.:

I imagine pretty much anything slightly modern or not that modern can run it, since it's just a simple 2D game with a relatively low resolution. But the lowest spec computer I was able to test the game in was a thinkpad x250, if you have one with lower specs than that and are able to run the game, please let me know to update this information.

Contact:

If for some reason you want to contact me to send me a message or just say hi (which I'd be really happy for), you can send me an email at strellynera at gmail dot com (written like this in case some bot is scanning for email addresses).

Just picked up the game, currently giving first impressions.

  1. No dialogue skip feature? It's a bit nitpicky for me as someone who had avidly played (and malded over) some Touhou games (mainly 15, some 16, and a bit of 6), but when you're constantly restarting for whatever targets you have (I currently am practicing to get the 1cc clear), having a "hold next to skip" feature is useful.
  2. Add a small help section. It's kinda confusing to try and tell between Power (Harmony) and Point pickups, despite them having the same color scheme as Touhou. It'll also help to know at what points of Harmony does your shot upgrades.
  3. Would help if there was a clearer way to tell if you're currently grazing. Only having those subtle sparks around A-Chan to tell so is kinda hard to tell. Having something like a slightly dark circle around A-Chan to tell when you're grazing and to show the graze range would be nice.

I would also talk about the shot type A-Chan has, but that's gonna be very biased as I am a Sanae main in TH15, who has a homing shot for her focused shot. (Though it would be a bit... weird, since it feels like I don't get any spread from unfocused at all, but I've only reached the 2.00 power shot, so I need to play more.)

Hey!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, very good points you make, number 1 and 3 were things I considered for release, but ended up not implementing because I wanted the game out, was losing steam/motivation for developing it so I didn't want to be stuck trying to implement those features, even though it'd have been simple, but it was a lesson learned for next projects.

Number 2 I didn't even consider, I never thought about how I never specify which pickup is which, same with lives and bombs. It should have been there.

As for homing, it was also considered and implemented, but it made the game too easy, mainly because I didn't take the time to balance it around homing. That would have costed a lot of time so I ended up scrapping the second shot type.

Thanks again for your detailed feedback, I appreciate it a lot <3.

Have a nice day!

It would be nice if you were to try and implement the three points I mentioned in an update. Unfortunately, I felt discouraged to play the game due to those three points, but I will still pick it back up for that 1cc clear.

Excellent game. Reminds me of Touhou.

Hey! Thanks a lot for taking the time to play this little game and for leaving a comment! <3 The game was in fact inspired by Touhou Project, so I'm glad it reminded you of it.

When I try to run it on Ubuntu I get this error:

Hello,

first of all, thank you VERY much for telling me this, I see I had some linux downloads and now I wonder if everyone had the same experience and just didn't bother to tell me, so yeah, I appreciate that you took the time to tell me what's going on <3.

If you are curious about what was causing it, I'll explain below, if not, you can ignore what's coming, thanks again and if you have any other problem, don't hesitate on letting me know, I hope you have a nice day!

The problem should be fixed now, if you are curious, it had to do with how Game Maker Studio 2 compiles it's games for Linux. There are two compiling options, VM (which is basically a virtual machine for the game) and YYC (which should convert the game to native code instead of interpreting it). There seems to be a bug in the YYC compiler for linux, so I'll also create a ticket for it with YoYo Games. And that's all!

ok I'll be honest: I love it, it's really good. I like the voices, the bossfights, the story ecc. BUT. I was doing a 1cc on my first try until haato showed up. I find really frustrating that fight, cause it's not the right way to increase the difficulty, that's just unfair, even the most skilled player would fail at that point (if they did not practiced of course). That's the only real issue with this game, and yeah I know touhou has Seija who does something similar (even worst imo). Great game tho, well done mate

Thanks for the critique!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game up until that point, I did take a risk going for that mechanic, but couldn't pass the thematic opportunity >.< don't want to say too much as to not spoil possible comment readers.

Even then, I tried making the patterns slow except for the last one, but I guess it wasn't balanced enough.

Balancing the game was an issue because I didn't really have many testers, so I apologize for the slip up in the experience.

I'll learn from this and try my best in the future!

Thanks again for your comment and taking the time to play this little game! <3

This is amazing, I really like Touhou and Hololive. This is the sum of my happiness.

I'm really happy to hear that! I just uploaded a version with stage 2 in case you want to see that!

Thanks a lot for your comment! <3

I'm not a fan of bullet hell games, but I managed to clear the demo stage!

The voice effects were funny! Also the art is unique and the story intriguing.

Good job making this game!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to play this and sharing your words with me! It means a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
